Destiny 2 Season 22 release time, date, server downtime, 7.2.0 patch notes

Destiny 2 developer Bungie is about to take the game offline for the launch of Season 22, which has an August 22 release date. The new Destiny 2 season will launch alongside update 7.2.0, which will be available to download ahead of the new season. While maintenance will begin at 2pm BST UK time, Bungie will take the game offline in full at 3.15pm BST. The game will be back online at 4pm BST, at which point fans will be able to start playing Season 22 content.

Season 22 introduces a new PvP map, as well as security changes and a whole host of quality of life updates.

This includes changes to Exotic armor, as Bungie looks to bolster some of the more underused exotics.

Bungie explains more: “We took a look at several Exotics that weren’t seeing a lot of usage in any game mode and targeted those for buffs this time around.

“In the process of doing so, we identified a few previously changed Exotics that needed further tweaks. Across the board, these changes are largely positive and should make the Exotics more useful and more powerful.”

Artifacts will also be tweaked for the new season, with Bungie looking to “push the boundaries” of how a Seasonal Artifact can help you customise your playstyle.

“Inspired by the success of Strand Tangles, the team worked hard to develop a new sandbox features we’ve dubbed ‘Elemental Orbs’.

“A set of Artifact perks will allow players to create these Orbs when they defeat enemies with Arc, Solar, or Void weapons. Elemental Orbs can then be picked up by any player and thrown to create an elementally aligned explosion that also jolts, scorches, or applies volatile depending on the element of the Orb.

“Certain perks deeper in the Artifact also have various behaviours that trigger off of these Orbs and Strand Tangles, including one that rewards you when allies steal —er… borrow the ones you make.”

Elsewhere, Bungie wants to change the reward process in Destiny 2, with players more likely to receive “ritual engrams upon completion of activities within ritual playlists”.

In addition to the new Destiny 2 season, Bungie is holding a special Showcase event, which will shed light on the upcoming Final Shape expansion.

The Final Shape Showcase will take place at 5pm BST UK time. Fans can watch it live on YouTube.

The Final Shape represents the concluding chapter in the ‘Light and Darkness Saga’. It’s likely to launch in February 2024, although exact dates are yet to be revealed.
