Keighley explains more: “Welcome to gamescom: Opening Night Live 2023, the big opening show of gamescom!
“Be there live as host Geoff Keighley leads you through an outstanding show. With thousands of fans on site in Cologne and millions of digital viewers. Look forward to: Trailer and gameplay reveals; talks with prominent developers and creators; a first look at gamescom 2023 events; and much more!”
In terms of what fans can expect, Opening Night Live will feature the first gameplay walkthrough for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.
While early footage was showcased during last week’s Modern Warfare 3 preview event in Warzone, Activision will use Opening Night Live to give fans a proper look at the game’s campaign.
Other games confirmed for Gamescom include upcoming Ubisoft action game Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is set to take the series back to its roots.
Mortal Kombat 1 will also appear at the event, alongside Alan Wake 2, Tekken 8 and Lords of the Fallen.
That’s on top of hotly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty, which launches in September.
Phantom Liberty is described as “a new spy-thriller adventure for Cyberpunk 2077”. It introduces Idris Elba as the character of Solomon Reed.
“When the orbital shuttle of the President of the New United States of America is shot down over the deadliest district of Night City, there’s only one person who can save her — you.
“Become V, a cyberpunk for hire, and dive deep into a tangled web of espionage and political intrigue, unraveling a story that connects the highest echelons of power with the brutal world of black-market mercenaries.”
Judging by the hype video, games like Sonic Superstars and Payday 3 will feature, as well as one or two big new announcements.
