XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 6 (4.23am BST)

As if things couldn't get any worse, the Xbox Live server status page is now reporting issues with "Buying items, redeeming codes, or downloading purchases"

Like the previous Xbox Live issues, this is impacting Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox on Windows 10 and other Xbox compatible devices.

Annoyingly for players, there's also been no further communication from the Xbox Support accounts to update fans on the server issues.

Though the server status page does actively say that "engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue" we're in no doubt that Xbox users would appreciate more updates.

XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 5 (3.15am BST)

    Gears 5 fans currently:

XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 4 (3am BST)

Just to reiterate the point we made previously about not being able to play some games, one Twitter user has posted:

"It would be nice if we had the ability to play Campaign, Horde, Escape and Versus offline while Xbox Live is having trouble. Not being able access an entire game sucks. I remember playing Horde on Gears 3 whenever Xbox Live was having trouble. Hope to see games do that again."

So yea, there's the other big problem with services like Xbox Live or PSN going down.

XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 3 (2.40am BST)

Xbox live has been down for close to two hours and unfortunately, there's no further news from Xbox Support on Twitter (@XboxSupport) or the official Xbox Server Status page.

The latter, has also not shared any further details since the outage was first spotted.

Even now, the server status page warns that Xbox Live Core Services are failing, which is impacting the following Xbox Live functions:

"Signing in; creating, managing, or recovering an account; search"

The main issue, for gamers, is obviously the signing in issue, which prevents the vast majority of online games to work as they normally would.

It means no multiplayer gaming for the time being and in some cases, for games which use a shared world, such as Destiny 2, it also means that some single-player experiences could be impacted, too.

With Gears 5 having launched less than 24 hours ago for anyone who purchased the Gears 5 Ultimate edition, it's unlikely that Xbox will be resting on their laurels.

That said, at the time of writing there is no indication exactly how long these issues could take to fix. We certainly don't think it'll be anytime soon, and for those reading this in the UK and Europe, it might well be better to call it a night and return to the action tomorrow morning.

We'll continue to update this story with more info as we get it. However, as we mention, we can't see any end to the Xbox server outage for the time being.

XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 2

Just to confirm what we were saying previously:

XBOX LIVE DOWN – UPDATE 1

Further to the below, it's worth noting that there's also reports en masse of the following games not working:

Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5, Apex Legends, Fortnite, EA Sports FIFA, PUBG and Gears 5 (which only just launched).

Obviously, these games are working just fine and any issues are linked to the ongoing issues with Xbox Live currently.

ORIGINAL STORY – Xbox Live servers are down this morning, with Microsoft confirming that they are experiencing problems with the Xbox One console's live services.

Issues started within the last hour (1am BST) and include problems with connecting to core online services.

The Independent outage monitoring website Down Detector has once again seen a massive spike in reports of users unable to use Xbox Live in the last ten minutes. These have topped out at 1000 reports but continue to rise.

Xbox Support and the official Xbox Server Status page is aware of the Xbox Live outage which is impacting some services and games.

More specifically it appears Xbox Live is having problems with "Signing in; creating, managing, or recovering an account; search"

A tweet from the support account reads:

"Our teams are aware & currently investigating errors when attempting to sign in. We'll update here & on our status page: http://xbox.com/status when we have more info to share"

Furthermore, a message on the server status page also adds:

"Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems finding previously-purchased content or purchasing new content. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience."

As with all Xbox outages, the issues were first reported by players who proceeding to let the console giant know exactly how they were feeling:

"Why is Xbox live down on a Friday evening??!!! @XboxSupport" one user complained"

"xbox live services down????? All my games started failing to connect to online and now I cant sign in?" reported another user.

"I get home and all I want to do is play #Gears5 and Xbox live is down." bemoaned another
