You know the old expression, there’s an app for that? Well, if you’re the kind of person who loves to finish somebody else’s sentences, then dear reader, Dear Reader should absolutely delight you.
This game is certainly one of the more stripped back “games” in the Apple Arcade roster, but this works in its favour. If you’re looking for something refreshing and simple to get away from the bombastic open world RPGs and grimdark soulslikes, this one's for you.
At the menu screen you’ll be greeted by a number of open-source books, from Pride and Prejudice to The Scarlet Letter.
It's all about filling in the blanks. I’m sure it’s even more interesting (and easy) if you’ve read the book you’re fixing up, but it’s good fun regardless to tear through the library and play copy editor for some of fiction’s finest, switching around iconic quotes and solving word puzzles.
It’s a lot like learning a language really, in an alternate universe where the Lingua Franca was the fictional context of the past thousand or so years. You can have that one (and this game) for free with your first month of Apple Arcade.
