Obsidian Entertainment has given us an extended look at The Outer Worlds before its October release.
This 44-minute chunk of gameplay shows off a vibrant alien world, which is absolutely rife with murderous lizard monsters, as well as branching conversations with quest givers in the the game’s walled settlements. It has a big space Western vibe, with many of the characters speaking in a folksy twang. In one fun sequence, we score a date between a lovely NPC and the weirdo monster-part vendor that she’s got a crush on — or, in the vernacular of The Outer Worlds, a squish.
Over the course of the game the player will earn reputation with different factions, and dig into the nature of the corporations that control the planet.
The Outer Worlds is the work of the minds behind the original Fallout, and Fallout: New Vegas. In keeping with tradition, The Outer Worlds will let players kill any NPC, and the developers have confirmed that hell yes, that makes the game tricky to program.
The Outer Worlds comes out on Oct. 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and Obsidian Entertainment recently confirmed that it will come out on Nintendo Switch as well. It will also be released as a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store for PC.
