Trade your blood for a copy of a vampire video game

Bandai Namco is holding a … unique … launch celebration for Code Vein: a blood drive. (If you haven’t guessed, Code Vein has vampires — vein, blood … get it?)

During TwitchCon weekend in San Diego, Bandai Namco is holding a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross, offering a free copy of Code Vein and a “promo blood kit” for people that donate blood, according to a tweet from the publisher. The blood drive will be held on Sept. 27, Code Vein’s release date, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in San Diego’s Gaslamp Square.

Bandai Namco is pointing potential donors to the American Red Cross website to pre-register. (At the time of writing, the site has “no online appointments available.”)

Though it certainly feels weird to trade blood for a video game, the Code Vein blood bank event is for a good cause. According to the American Red Cross, “every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.” Donated blood is used in surgeries, cancer treatment, and for people with chronic illnesses. One blood donation can potentially help three people, the American Red Cross reports.

Code Vein will be released on Sept. 27 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
