Many Dota 2 fans were deeply disappointed when Valve delayed the 10th incarnation of The International due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Well, the TI is still breaking records, since it now will offer the largest prize pool in esports tournament history. The previous record was held by last year’s The International 9, which topped out at $34.33 million.
It’s still unclear when The International 10 might happen. Reports have indicated that Valve is targeting 2021 at the earliest, but at least one esports league has claimed that it might be pushed to 2022. The above tweet from the official Dota 2 account is the latest word from Valve, and it hasn’t committed to any details.
As with previous editions of the tournament, purchases of the Dota 2 battle pass help fund the prize pool, which means that the numbers could increase quite a bit more before the drive expires later in September.
