You can download a free The Last of Us 2 gift on PS4 right now

This week, Sony and Naughty Dog teamed up to push out a surprise free gift to players that are eagerly awaiting the developer's next big game, The Last of Us 2.

The developer and publisher have between them released a fresh new dynamic PlayStation 4 theme based on The Last of Us: Part II as we count down the days and hours, waiting for the game to finally launch on PS4.

The dynamic theme – the latest of Sony's extensive theme giveaways – features some beautiful artwork of protagonist and main character Ellie propped up against a tree, playing her guitar.

Better yet, the free theme changes from day to night, depending on what time your console's clock is set to – talk about immersive.

What is The Last of Us: Part 2?

  • Developer – Naughty Dog
  • Release date – 29 May 2020
  • Format – PS4
  • The Last of Us Part 2 is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

It is the sequel to 2013's critically acclaimed The Last of Us and follows on five years after the first game ended.

Though little is known about the games central plot, the Naughty Dog website does say this:

"In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is now 19 and has found a semblance of peace and normality living in Jackson. She’s had a chance to be a teenager and forge lasting relationships.

"When that peace is disrupted by a violent act, Ellie is thrust into a brutal journey of retribution, fuelled by a need to bring those that have wronged her to justice, pushing her to her very limits."

Anyone around the world can download the theme from today.

In order to download the free gift, you'll need to head to your PlayStation 4, navigate to the PlayStation Store, then scroll down to the 'redeem code' section of the menu.

Depending on your region, you'll need to add the following codes:

    • Americas: 4FMP-BBNM-J5L3
    • Europe/AU/NZ/Russia/Middle East/Africa/India: 9DEK-PKNG-N445
    • Japan/Asia: RRR3-H3NG-6CJN

Don't worry about being quick to add them to your account, either – Sony notes that the codes expire on 11th February 2021 , so you've got just under a year to get on with redeeming them.

If that's not enough for you, we've got some good news for you: Sony has a slew of free themes you can download and use for your PlayStation 4 console that let you show your tastes to anyone that happens to see your Home Screen.

There are over 300 themes available on the PSN store right now, but we've done the dirty work and managed to find the best themes – all of which you can find in our 10 of the best PlayStation 4 bonuses you can download right now list.

We'll update you as more free stuff becomes available on the PlayStation Store.
