Xbox One News: Next Xbox console price reveal bad news for Sony’s PS4?

A disc-less Xbox One console is expected to be released in May 2019, and we could be just days away from its reveal.

Having leaked several times over the past months, the new Xbox One S – All-Digital Edition is expected to be revealed on April 16.

This is when Microsoft will be hosting a big Xbox live stream event and would be the perfect place to reveal the new console.

Several leaks have confirmed that the next Xbox console will be on May 7, 2019, and will not include a disc drive.

As the name would suggest, everything on this new console will be from a digital store and will boast a 1TB hard drive.

Microsoft has already teased that they have several reveals lined up for the event, some of which will be surprises.

“Tune in to an all-new episode of Inside Xbox on Tuesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET for the latest news on E3, including Xbox FanFest and more,” the announcement from Microsoft reveals.

“Our hour-long April episode will explore some exciting Xbox Game Pass news, new details on the much anticipated Anniversary Update for Sea of Thieves, special guest Rod Fergusson from The Coalition, first details and footage of the Warhammer Chaosbane beta, an exclusive look at Rage 2, a handful of exciting Back Compat announcements, and several surprises we’re saving for the show itself.”

And if the new Xbox console is announced in the coming days, you can also expect a price reveal as well.

A recent image hit the web showing that the Digital-Only console will look like a standard Xbox One S.

It also provided some details on the price, which is expected to be the cheapest console Microsoft has yet released.

The new Xbox is expected to cost $249.99 to buy, lower than the current stand price from Microsoft.

However, most retailers sell the Xbox in bundles for around the same price, so the same is expected to happen with the All Digital.

And if that happens, it could put some added pressure on Sony’s PS4 this year.

The Nintendo Switch is expected to be the best-selling console this year, above the PS4 and Xbox One.

And if Microsoft does launch a new Xbox One that’s priced lower than the standard PS4, this could also affect sales further.

Data from industry-tracking firm The NPD Group confirmed that the Nintendo Switch was taking its place at the top of the charts in 2019.

NPD analyst Mat Piscatella shared more on the subject last month, tweeting: “Nintendo Switch is the best-selling hardware platform of February. “And [for] 2019 year to date.”

“Hardware spending in February 2019 declined 12 per cent when compared to a year ago, to $277 million…

“Nintendo generated its highest February-month hardware dollar sales since February 2011.

“The company also reached the highest year-to-date dollar sales for Nintendo-produced hardware since 2011.”

Sony has already sold a lot of PS4 consoles during its current lifecycle and look set to see the console become one of the best-selling of all time.

But added pressure from their hardware rivals, along with the launch of the Google Stadia streaming service, could see the tech giant make some changes of their own.

There’s nothing to suggest Sony will release their digital-only console, but they could look to drop the price in the future.

Analysts will be keeping a keen eye on what is announced later this month and how that will affect things for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo in the future.
