Watch the cast of Stranger Things play Dungeons & Dragons for real on YouTube

The cast of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things is finally sitting down to play Dungeons & Dragons for real. A special actual play session, lead by Wizards of the Coast principal story designer Chris Perkins, goes live on YouTube Dec. 18. Participants include David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), and Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler). A teaser trailer was released Tuesday on the Stranger Things YouTube channel.

The title of the actual play event is Lost Odyssey: Toy Time for Ten-Towns. It’s a reference to the populated area in the center of Icewind Dale, the northern part of the Forgotten Realms’ Sword Coast region. That’s where the most recent campaign module for D&D takes place. Called Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, it takes players from level one all the way up to level 11 — and even comes in a deluxe edition.

Stranger Things owes so much to the D&D franchise, it’s a wonder that it’s taken this long for a proper crossover. Not only did the game literally kick off the show’s first episode, it also helped to form the arc of the entire first season and provide cultural touchstones for its bizarre monsters. There’s even an officially licensed D&D starter set themed to match the adventure from the first season, complete with a miniature Demogorgon.

A trailer for the fourth season of Stranger Things dropped in February, but we still don’t have a date for when it might premiere.
