Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has been delayed yet again. Initially set to release in 2021 before COVID-19-related issues pushed it into spring 2022, Fatshark then delayed the game to September 13 to ensure a quality release. Now, Fatshark CEO and co-founder Martin Wahlund is asking for just over two more months “to get you the best possible game."
"Today, we decided to delay the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to November 30th for PC. Xbox Series X|S will launch shortly after PC, with specific launch dates to come," wrote Wahlund in today’s announcement.
"Delaying a game is perhaps one of the most difficult decisions a developer faces and one we are not excited about making. Still, we hope this speaks to our commitment to taking the time necessary and doing whatever it takes to get you the best possible game."
On the bright side, Wahlund also announced "a series of tests and betas" that will be starting in the near future. Signups are available here.
Warhammer 40K: Darktide was first announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020. The follow-up to the wildly successful Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Darktide expands on Vermintide’s formula and changes the setting to the sci-themed Warhammer 40,000 universe. A team of up to four Inquisitorial Agents arrive on the planet Atoma Prime to investigate potential Chaos infiltration in the Hive City of Tertium. Spoiler alert: it's infested, with thousands of poxwalkers, cultists, and Deathguard who would like nothing more than to add a few agents to their ranks.
Players will be able to choose between four classes, including Veteran, Zealot, Ogryn, and Psyker. Players will be able to make customized characters based on these classes, able to change appearance and voices for a unique look. Loot will be broken down by rarity, and our preview from June even described a live-service game model with seasonal content drops.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide now arrives on November 30 for PC. We’ll let you know when Xbox players will get a chance to join in the fray.
