The announcement of a new set of Pokemon games is something that will likely have fans of the series talking and theorizing right up until the games actually release. The excitement for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is definitely real, but with each new installment in the series gamers have their own list of things they hope to see.
One of the most talked-about things between game generations is what new Pokemon will be included and what types they will be. Historically, there have been a few Pokemon types that have received more love than others, just take a look at the list of water-type Pokemon. Most people can agree that there are a few Pokemon types that deserve some more love in the newest generation.
For people that aren’t Pokemon super fans, it can be surprisingly hard to confidently name more than a handful of Ground-type Pokemon without a lot of thought. That may be why the type is in a state where it could use at least a few new Pokemon.
It should be said that there are tons of powerful Pokemon that are at least partially Ground-type, but no one would be mad if we got a few more. There are still plenty of dual-type possibilities when it comes to Pokemon that feature the Ground-type.
For how popular Fighting-type Pokemon tend to be, it is a bit of a surprise that the type isn’t one that features some of the most Pokemon. To be fair, it can’t be all that easy to design Pokemon around a concept like fighting while keeping them distinct from one another.
It seems like every generation has at least one iconic Fighting-type Pokemon from Machamp to Infernape and even to Hawlucha. Each features unique designs and even has some unique types on top of their Fighting-type. There is clearly still plenty to do with the world of brawling Pokemon.
There are tons of fan-favorite Rock-type Pokemon out there, but that might be due to the fact that there are portions in every game that force you into caves for extended periods of time. With how prevalent those sections are, maybe it’s time for some new Pokemon of that type.
While there have been some great Rock-type Pokemon designs, there have been even more than most fans aren’t all that thrilled about. Buckling down and getting creative with additional Rock-types could help reinvigorate the interest in the type as a whole.
Pokemon fans seem to love the dark-type of Pokemon, but they also seem to not like how weak the entire type can be at times. A few new powerful members for the Dark-type could even mean the introduction of plenty of new dark-type moves.
It’s surprising that the Dark-type hasn’t gotten more love from Pokemon since it feels like most Pokemon fans have at least one Dark-type in their top ten favorites. Whatever the reason, almost everyone can agree more cool and even cute Dark-types would be incredible.
While there is a surprising amount of steel-type Pokemon in existence, it is fair to say that there aren’t nearly as many as some of the other types. Even more surprising, there are a lot of, at least in part, Steel-type Pokemon that are beloved by the fanbase.
It feels like the Steel-type has been held back from getting more members thanks to the addition of mega evolutions and the fact that a surprising amount of Legendaries is of the Steel-type. To be fair, it’s not the easiest thing to include steel within living creatures based on animals.
You could make the argument that more Dragon-type Pokemon aren’t needed because the type is usually pretty overpowered when compared to many other types. Others might argue that there should be more, especially now that the fairy-type can stand against them with ease.
One thing that many people seem to hope for is that if we do get more Dragon-types, their designs are a bit more varied. Many of the Dragon-types can feel a bit standard in design in a world filled with fantastically designed creatures.
The fact that Pikachu is literally the Pokemon mascot and yet the Electric-type of Pokemon has one of the lowest total counts out of all types is a shock. While it can’t be the easiest to come up with unique electric designs based on animals plenty of new Pokemon of this type would make fans happy.
Everyone has their own opinions on the various Pokemon, but many people agree that it’s been a while since Pokemon introduced an original and interesting Electric-type. Some Argue Zebstrika was the last great Electric-type, and others even argue it was Luxray.
For how new the Fairy-type is it has a surprising amount of Pokemon that fall under that type. It has become a rather powerful type, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t use some more Pokemon. A type like a fairy could also help the developers branch out into more unique designs.
The Fairy-type feels a little bland at the moment thanks to a lack of differing styles amongst the newer entries, so maybe it’s time to get really creative and flex just what Pokemon can do with their latest type. Fluff and flowers are great, but everyone knows Pokemon can do even better.
Since the Pokemon games are typically seen as for children even though they're games for all ages, it does make sense that the Ghost-type Pokemon could use a few more members. Ghosts don’t always need to have a creep factor, so some cute ghosts could go a long way.
While Gengar has pretty much always been a supremely popular Ghost-type, many of the others haven’t risen to nearly the same level, which may be why there are so few. Seeing the team behind Pokemon challenge themselves to create some unique new Ghost-types is something everyone can get behind.
The poor Ice-type has seemingly been neglected for years. It’s quite a surprise as well as the type has plenty of opportunities to provide not only unique designs but the types of battle applications that can turn the tide of a rough battle.
The Ice-type features some of the most visually striking Pokemon from across the series, so it’s a shock that there aren’t more. The fact that the most popular Ice-types tend to be the ones that were shifted from the first generation shows that the type has been treated rather coldly.
