The Last Of Us Part II release date is February 2020, probably

The voice actress that plays Ellie seems to have given away Naughty Dog’s secret, reinforcing previous rumours of an early 2020 release.

If there was only one surprise about E3 it was that Sony didn’t try to gate crash it more with their own separate announcements.

It looked like things were going that way the week before E3 started but they didn’t say a word during E3 itself and, since they don’t attend Gamescom anymore, it’s now impossible to guess when and how they’ll make any more big announcements.

A random State Of Play livestream is the best guess but in the meantime we’ll just have to make do with voice actress Ashley Johnson giving away the fact that The Last Of Us Part II is out in February.

Or at least that’s what it sounds like in the above interview, where she’s asked when the game is coming out and starts to say February, before being interrupted.

It doesn’t seem like the host realises what she was about to say and weirdly the question is not addressed again.

Traditionally, voice actors are an extremely unreliable source of information about video games (they were responsible for numerous false rumours about Fallout 4 and GTA, to name but two) but February has already been mooted as a release window by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier.

According to Schreier the game had been intended for released late this year, but as often happens with Naughty Dog games it was delayed.

The original game was released in June, which might have been a good guess on it is own. The original also came out towards the end of the PlayStation 3’s lifespan and was remastered for the subsequent console – which is also very likely to happen with the sequel.
