Naughty Dog has been the victim of yet another leak, with a short clip from The Last Of Us Part 2’s multiplayer spin-off appearing online.
The Last Of Us Part 2 has once again been subject to a major leak, although since this one revolves around a new multiplayer game there are at least no story spoilers this time.
The clip is not only short but also extremely low quality but it clearly shows an evolved version of the Factions multiplayer mode from the first game, and seems to take place on a map based on one of the locations from early on in The Last Of Us Part 2’s story campaign.
Although it’s unclear where the footage has come from it’s pretty obviously real given that Sony keeps trying to get it taken down from YouTube every time a new upload goes up (so apologies if the clip below isn’t working).
Factions was a mode from the original The Last Of Us that, while often overlooked, was actually very good and featured an unusual mix of stealth and combat that was based on the single-player combat systems but worked very well in multiplayer.
A new version of the same mode was planned for The Last Of Us Part 2 but was left to become a separate spin-off so that Naughty Dog could concentrate on the story campaign.
Naughty Dog has never made it clear whether the new Factions mode will be sold as a full price standalone game, a free spin-off, or something in between, and have always given the impression that they haven’t decided themselves yet.
There’s also no clue as to when the mode might be released and that’s something this leak doesn’t really help to answer.
