Following several death threats against actress Laura Bailey, Neil Druckmann has revealed the sort of messages he’s been getting lately.
Over the weekend, actress Laura Bailey shared some of the repulsive messages she’s received from gamers recently, who are angry about her role in The Last Of Us Part 2.
This included numerous death threats and highly abusive language, with many colleagues, including game director Neil Druckmann, subsequently offering their support.
But now Druckmann himself has shared the sort of correspondence he’s been getting lately and it’s equally disgusting – so read the tweets below with caution, as they include homophobia, transphobia, and anti-Semitic language and images.
‘You can love or hate the game and share your thoughts about it’, wrote Druckmann in this original tweet. ‘Unfortunately too many of the messages I’ve been getting are vile, hateful, and violent’, here are just a handful of them (feel it’s important to expose).’
None of the messages are technically death threats, although many of them wish him harm, but it’s almost certain that Druckmann has received them anyway, with a tweet from back in May seeming to imply just that.
What makes the situation arguably even worse is that some of the messages seem to imply that the person has never played the game and is getting riled up about fake rumours, as despite what it may seem like there are no spoilers in the tweets.
Developer Naughty Dog has issued a general statement about the harassment of the game’s cast and crew, saying that, ‘Although we welcome critical discussion, we condemn any form of harassment or threats directed towards our team and cast.’
‘Their safety is our top priority, but we must all work together to root out this type of behaviour and maintain a constructive and compassionate discourse.’
