Sword Reverie Achieves Kickstarter Target, Eyes Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR Support

In March Isekai Entertainment released the first details for its Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) inspired virtual reality (VR) title Sword Reverie. Then last week the team launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign which hit its target within the first few days and now hopes to hit stretch goals which include Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR support.

The studio wanted to hit $10,000 USD as the main target to help the development of Sword Reverie, which has been in production for two years already. That was achieved within three days and the campaign has now passed its first stretch goal adding full Japanese voice over support. Primarily designed for PC VR, the additional hardware support is further up the list, Oculus Quest at $20,000 and PlayStation VR at $25,000.

If both of these are accomplished then there’s still going to be a wait. Originally, the team had slated a PC early access release by the end of the year, that’s no longer the case. The early access launch of Sword Reverie will now take place in Spring 2021. Through the Kickstarter backers can get a discount, picking up Sword Reverie for $18 (about £15) on the cheapest tier. Spend more and there are loads of digital and physical goodies to unlock, including alpha access.

Sword Reverie promises a massive explorable world with anime aesthetics and filled with monsters to fight. Set in a world where humans and creatures called Elementals have got along for thousands of years, that peace is breaking down and it’s up to you to save the day.

Gameplay is a mixture of magical and physical combat, where players are armed with a variety of weapons such as swords, axes, and hammers. These can then be augmented with special abilities activated via gestures, creating fireballs, volley’s of ice and other element-based attacks.

Current plans are for five worlds and three main bosses – with mini-bosses scattered throughout – but if the stretch goals are hit then additional content including enemies, bosses and weapons will be added. As further details regarding Sword Reverie and its development are released, VRFocus will let you know.
