Those looking to take up the Saikyo Arts in Street Fighter V will need to wait a bit as it seems like Dan has gotten lost on his travels. In an update on the official Street Fighter Twitter account today, SFV producer Shuhei Matsumoto confirmed that the upcoming DLC season for Capcom’s latest fighter has been pushed back a bit due to COVID-19. Dan is still on track for February 2021, however, so it’s not all gloom and doom.
Matsumoto didn’t have much to say about when the other characters would be available but stated that the delay was made to ensure the health and safety of Capcom employees working on this DLC. That’s the best move, especially in the wake of something like Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch on last-generation consoles. There’s no need to rush things out.
Capcom will be back at the beginning of 2021 with more updates for fans, likely giving us a firmer release date for Dan. As the first part of the final season for Street Fighter V, Dan will begin a new era for SFV that will send the game off in style. We still don’t even know who the mystery character is, so anything is possible at this point.
I’m holding out hope that Morrigan from Darkstalkers makes the cut. I would love it if Capcom’s first next-generation fighting game is Darkstalkers 4, though that’s probably being too optimistic. Either way, I’m happy that developers seem to be learning to treat their employees better. We don’t need any more stories of extreme crunch for content.
