Steam Game Festival has been rebranded as Steam Next Fest, with an upcoming event taking place from June 16 to June 22. Steam Next Fest will include hundreds of game demos and developer livestreams, and the chance to chat with the teams behind the next big games.
“We’ve renamed the Steam Game Festival to more directly communicate its focus: Announcing Steam Next Fest, a multi-day celebration of upcoming games,” reads a statement from Valve. “Explore and play hundreds of game demos, watch developer livestreams, and chat with the teams about their games in progress, coming soon to Steam.”
Valve did not release a list of games that would be featured during the upcoming Steam Next Fest.
The last Steam Game Festival took place in February, giving you access to dozens of demos for upcoming games, including Hazel Sky, Riftbreaker, and Almighty: Kill Your Gods. All told, more than 500 games made demos available for the event.
As an official rebrand, we wouldn’t be surprised to see even more games make an appearance during the first-ever Steam Next Fest.
If you’re interested in checking out the virtual event, you can set a reminder for Steam Next Fest on its official website.
Steam has been having a strange couple of months, with Valheim – an indie title that came out of nowhere – topping the charts consistently for the past few weeks. We also saw Rainbow Six Siege hit a new concurrent players peak on the service, despite first launching in 2015.
Then there’s Nier: Automata, which is being review bombed on PC because the Game Pass version runs much better than what’s available on Valve’s platform. Automata is without a doubt one of the best games of the last generation, but it’s fallen prey to stuttering, crashing, and resolution issues.
Steam is a massive source of revenue for most indie developers – just look at Valheim – and it’s great to see the company continue to showcase these games as often as possible. The last Steam Game Festival was a resounding success, and it’ll be exciting to see which games stand out from the crowd on June 16.
