Square Enix is finally set to reveal its long-awaited Avengers game, according to a tweet from Marvel Entertainment. The comics and movie giant tweeted on Wednesday morning that the reveal will come on June 10 during Square Enix’s E3 2019 press briefing, which is set to begin at 9 p.m. ET. The tweet referred to the game as Marvel’s Avengers.
The Avengers game was announced back in January 2017 with a short teaser calling it the Avengers Project. The video showed a slow pan across the iconic weapons of some of Marvel’s most famous characters, like Captain America’s shield and one of Iron Man’s repulsors. Since then, we’ve only gotten bits and pieces about the game with no real substantial details.
One of the few things we know for sure is that the Avengers game will be developed by Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the recent Tomb Raider games. Working in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics will be Eidos Montreal, which most recently made 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
It isn’t clear when exactly the game will take place or if it will even tie in to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the game’s original announcement, the MCU has been through both Infinity War and Endgame, so it could make sense to branch out, since the universe is about to start a new chapter. But for any concrete details, we’ll have to wait until the reveal on June 10 during Square Enix’s E3 press conference.
