Skyrim And World Of Warcraft’s Stormwind City Reimagined As Old School RuneScape Maps

Two of the biggest games on the planet have received a low-res map makeover, as both Skyrim and Stormwind City from World of Warcraft have been reimagined as Old School RuneScape locales. The maps are designed in the same fashion as those seen in Old School RuneScape, and they even include tiny icons for each of the city’s attractions.

If you’re familiar with World of Warcraft, this work of art will be instantly recognizable. The map’s creator did an incredible job of faithfully translating the popular city into an OSRS map. Everything from WoW is intact. The Trade District, Mage Quarters, Stormwind Keep, even the Harbor – all of it is perfectly recreated in Old School form. Most of the key features of the city are indicated with OSRS icons, too, including fishing locations, quests, and various merchants.

The same goes for the massive map of Skyrim. It’s not quite as one-to-one as Stormwind City, but it’s obvious at a glance what you’re looking at. “A lot of the scale is altered to make the map feel more RuneScape-like – cities and towns are much bigger and the surrounding wilderness is compressed,” wrote the artist. “A few places in Skyrim had to be cut because they wouldn’t fit, and some are in different places to what you’d expect from Skyrim (e.g. the temple from the Meridia beacon quest.”

Despite the slight changes, the two maps are still remarkable. We can’t even imagine how much time was spent trying to get each location mapped properly – let alone faithfully recreate the iconic Old School RuneScape art style. If you’re interested in learning more about the process, you can check out a few resources shared by the poster, including both the program used to piece together the map and a detailed guide on how to get started.

Skyrim has seen something of a resurgence lately, as it was recently added to Xbox Game Pass. World of Warcraft continues to be an MMO powerhouse – thanks to its latest expansion – and even Old School RuneScape pulls in nearly 100 thousand players each day. It’s been a great year for all three titles, and it’ll be exciting to see what they have planned for 2021.
