Rust is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in 2021 and gamers may have just got an interesting update regarding Double-Eleven’s launch plans.

Rust was confirmed as getting a console port in 2019 and there have been several delays that have pushed it back to 2021.

Rust has seen a recent boost on Twitch, with viewership spiking to all-time-highs in recent weeks.

The official Rust account has confirmed that the game has passed over one million viewers, making it one of the most popular on the platform.

So wouldn’t it make the perfect time to release Rust on PS4 and Xbox One?

While fans were disappointed about the delay announced in December, a new update suggests we’re getting closer to Rust launching on console.

A new ESRB rating has been spotted by gamers which suggests that the console port is getting closer.

The rating doesn’t share details on when Rust is coming to PS4 and Xbox One or any other release plans.

But it does list PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the platforms the Rust console edition will be available to play on, adding this description:

“This is a multiplayer first-person survival game in which players compete to survive in a hostile environment.

“Players explore the open-world environment, gather resources, create weapons (e.g., spears, machine guns, explosives), and defend themselves from wild animals and other players.

“Players can attack and kill enemies in frenetic combat, with successful hits resulting in large splashes of blood. Players can keep shooting animals or humans on the ground (i.e., postmortem damage), accompanied by large blood-splatter effects.

“Battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire and explosions. When human enemies are killed, they can be harvested for body parts and cooked for food.”

With this latest rating in mind, there’s a chance that the Rust console edition release date will be available by Spring 2021.

Here’s what Double Eleven told gamers in December regarding the launch of the game on console:

“We love making great games and bringing them to new audiences, but that sometimes means taking a bit longer to get it right than we originally planned and comes at the unfortunate cost of the disappointment and trust of those who were so keen to play it upon launch.

“Why have we been so quiet for so long? The world of games dev is a fickle beast; you never have the full picture upfront and the development process often becomes more of a journey of discovery when bringing a PC title to console.

“As much as engaging with players is extremely important, we believe it also has to be meaningful and as we’ve been working away behind the scenes, we haven’t felt ready to share anything with you yet.

“As a company in 2020, a year that has brought very challenging times for many, we’ve felt very fortunate to be able to keep doing what we love.

“We’ve always had some remote workers but moving the entire company home to keep everyone safe has presented challenges as we’ve found new ways to work with each other in the new normal that this year had in store for us.

“We’re sorry that we haven’t been able to bring you Rust on console in 2020 as planned. We know from all of the messages that you’re excited to play it and we hope that with the dawn of 2021 we can restore your trust as we edge closer to being able to share something with you.”
