Rockstar Confirms Red Dead Online Players Will Be Able To Transfer Their Stadia Accounts

Google recently revealed it will be shutting down Stadia in January 2023. The company throwing in the towel on its cloud gaming venture has some people more concerned than others. Particularly one Red Dead Online player who has logged almost 6,000 hours in the game on Stadia, progress they assumed they are now set to lose.

ItsColourTV shared a screenshot on Twitter following the Stadia news, revealing they have been playing Red Dead Online for 5,907 hours, begging Rockstar for the ability to transfer their account. Colour has returned to Twitter this week with an update and good news for anyone who has been playing the game on the Google platform. Rockstar has responded to what were presumably a number of messages, confirming account transfers for Stadia owners are now possible.

"All active Stadia players who played Red Dead Online within the 30 days prior to Stadia announcing their shutdown will be able to carry over any earned RDO$, Gold Bars, XP, Role XP, and Role Tokens,” Rockstar's reply to Colour reads. A link to instructions explaining how to do it is included, giving PS4, Xbox One, or PC as potential transfer options.

What remains unclear is if Rockstar has been pressured into making this an option, or if it is something it has been implementing ever since it found out Stadia was shutting down. In Rockstar's defense, other developers have revealed they didn't find out Stadia was shutting down until Google announced it to the world. Right before that CD Projekt confirmed Cyberpunk's 2077 DLC would be coming to Stadia.

That won't be the case anymore as the Phantom Liberty DLC won't be here until after Stadia has shut down. News that Red Dead Online players who use Stadia won't lose their progress is a much-needed win for its community. They've not had much to celebrate this year after Rockstar confirmed it wouldn't be rolling out any more major content updates for the game.
