Spider-Man: Miles Morales is launching this holiday season exclusively on PlayStation 5, and Insomniac Games is starting to slowly detail how its spin-off will make the most of the new powerful hardware.
Like many PS4 games, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will ship with modes that let you choose how you want to experience the game. In this instance, Insomniac has shared that the game’s Performance Mode will let you play the game at 4K and 60 frames-per-second, which is a major jump in performance over most PS4 exclusives running on the PS4 Pro today.
The more surprising aspect is that this is the game’s mode targeting performance over visual quality, which begs the question as to what an accompanying Quality Mode might feature. The logical answer is more complex visual effects, such as raytracing, which have a big impact on performance and framerates. It’s probable that to reach a stable 60 fps at 4K, you’ll be missing out on other new visual enhancements Insomniac is making to its snow-covered New York.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales isn’t a full sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 but will be a brand-new campaign set in a visually different New York City, starring Miles Morales over Peter Parker. The game will also be standalone, and not require the previous game to play. The PS5 launches this holiday season, with Sony stating that pre-order dates will be communicated before they go live. You may, however, be limited to just one console during this period.
