PS5 release date news is headlined today by a new trademark which could hint that Sony are gearing up to unveil their next console. As revealed in a post by LetsGoDigital, Sony recently filed a trademark for the PS5 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IGE IPI). The trademark was filed on Monday under sections that cover game discs, interactive computer software, game consoles and interactive entertainment.

The trademark could be a sign that Sony are gearing up to unveil the PS5 and comes amid speculation that a reveal event could be taking place next month.
It is widely rumoured that Sony will unveil the PS5 at a PlayStation Meeting event in February.
This would follow a similar launch schedule to the PS4 when the first details on that console were revealed in February ahead of a late 2013 launch.

And ahead of this rumoured PS5 event an alleged leak has emerged detailing what could be announced.
According to the claims, the PS5 launch event will take place on Wednesday February 5.
The alleged leak claims Sony will use the event to unveil the console design, controller as well as the UI and highlight specific features.
Sony will allegedly use buzz words such as “little to no load times”, “blazing fast downloads” and “immersive controls” to promote the PS5.
The alleged leak claims a big PS5 feature will be backwards compatibility with the console supporting devices throughout PlayStation’s history.
So the PS5 will reportedly be backwards with the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PSP.

How the latter is pulled off remains to be seen, with the PSP using the proprietary UMD format.
Will the PS5 use an accessory that allows UMD discs to be inserted, or will this only apply to digital PSP games?
The PS5 will also reportedly support PS4 accessories such as the DualShock 4 and the PSVR headset.
The PS5 will allegedly be out in October 2020 and, as per the alleged leak, will be priced at £449.

The poster also goes on to claim that Gran Turismo 7, Demon’s Souls Remastered and SIE Santa Monica’s new IP Legendz will be among the launch titles.
New Horizon Zero Dawn, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Spider-Man and Crash Bandicoot games will also reportedly be shown off at the event.
As will new games from Naughty Dog, SIE Japan and London Studio, according to the ‘leaker’.
This is interesting as another alleged leak has now seemingly backed up one of these claims.
As reported in a post by Wccftech, YouTuber and insider AestheticGamer has claimed a new Capcom game will be revealed soon.
This YouTuber previously correctly revealed the first details about the Resident Evil 3 Remake.
And they have now said a new Capcom game is being revealed soon, with the announcement being delayed due to Sony’s PS5 plans.
On Twitter in a series of tweets Aesthetic Gamer posted: “This game was originally supposed to be revealed alongside RE3 at last E3, but both the game and the announcement got delayed.
“Due to various changes in planning due to a mixture of Sony and Capcom’s (Sony having to put more focus on reworking the PS5, Capcom because this project needed more time in the oven and I believe, but can’t confirm, that they’re making this a cross-gen game but the next-gen versions got delayed).
“I don’t know precisely when Capcom will reveal the game, I’m not physically in their offices as they make these decisions.
“But as the originally planned to be revealed last year and released this year, with it’s delay it’s very likely it’s going to be revealed pretty soon.”
Could this game Aesthetic Gamer is referring to be the next Resident Evil game, which the 4chan leak claimed would be announced at the PS5 event?
Or could it be another Capcom game that also will be revealed at the rumoured PlayStation 5 event?
As always with rumours it’s best to take them with a pinch of salt until official confirmation.
But it sounds like February could be a very exciting month to be a PlayStation fan.
