PlayStation first released their coveted PS5s in November 2020, however, the popularity of the console has led to stores being out of stock for months – with any restock selling out at lightning speed. Now Twitter reports are suggesting a massive drop of PS5s is expected, at four popular retailers – Amazon, GAME, Smyths and John Lewis.

Earlier today Amazon listed their latest stock of PS5s, however, these sold out rapidly as with previous stock drops.

While there were some lucky buyers, others once more came up empty.

One Twitter account – PS5 Stock UK (@PS5SupplyUK) has been issuing updates on when and where stock could be available.

Today the account said up to “2,000 units” are expected at Smyths Toys as “early as tomorrow @8-10am”.

PS5SupplyUK wrote at 2pm today: “In April, at least one major retailer will drop #PS5 stock each week which means that stock levels are increasing rapidly.

“A 2000 unit Symths Toys drop is imminent and could be as early as tomorrow @ 8-10am.”

Smyths have not confirmed this, with their site currently showing all PS5s as out of stock for both delivery and in-store collections.

Also listed as having potential stock soon are GAME and John Lewis – with expected dates for consoles to return to shelves.

Tracker accounts have been keeping close eyes on key PS5 retailers, and noting any changes.

One tracker account said: “GAME missed restock deadline, So 6-8th April as previously stated. Amazon, JL & Very next week!”

Then responding to one commenter the tracker said: “I rarely say info I’ve released is incorrect, I’ve just been updating as I get information.

“I initially said 6th to 8th… I also announced both the stock drops this month in February.”

Another commented: “We can still expect JL [John Lewis] and Very soon. Also Argos or Smyths in early April.

“I have been busy these couple of days unfortunately, although I am very ready for drops from now on.”

Those searching for PS5s have been condemning ‘scalpers’ who bulk buy popular items and sell them on for extortionate prices.

Others have been frustrated with the times stock has become available, with some stores opting to list items in the early hours of the morning.

One person tweeted: “I give up on it. 4 months of trying to get the #PS5. They sell out in minutes when stock comes.

“And at a ridiculous time too when people are sleeping.

“Scalpers and bots make the situation worse. And Covid-19 lockdown also doesn’t help either with all stores closed.”

So what can you do? One option is to sign up for email alerts from sites like StockInformer, or dedicated Twitter accounts.

StockInformer constantly checks for stock at reputable retailers and alerts its users when items are available.

Those seeking PS5s, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switches can sign up for email, WhatsApp or site alerts when stock drops.

There are currently two types of PS5 console on the market, the digital edition console and full edition console.

The digital edition is £359.99 and is for gamers who prefer to download their games straight to console – with no need for discs.

The full edition is £449.99 and players can both download games or use discs.
