More PS5 stock was released by UK retailer GAME today, and one group of scalpers say they greatly benefitted.
One group posted online that over 2,000 PS5s had been pre-ordered using its bots, making it possible for those consoles to be resold.
If this is true, it means that groups were able to buy multiple PlayStation 5 consoles, leaving many gamers unable to buy one.
The GAME site clearly states that only one console per-person should be available to purchase in January.
But in a twist of good news, UK retailer GAME has confirmed that they will be taking action.
And this could mean that a smaller PS5 restock could be coming our way, depending on what happens next.
A spokesperson from GAME revealed to VGC that they would be sifting through its PS5 pre-order stock before releasing it.
If you managed to get to the front of the queue, you had around 30 minutes to complete your order.
“You are in the GAME PlayStation queue. When it is your turn, you will have 30 minutes to complete your order. Thank you for your patience,” a message from the site confirms.
And as stated on the GAME website, deliveries are expected on February 5, but you can pre-order now.
PlayStation 5 console prices start at £359 for the disc-free version, and £450 for the disc-based edition.
This delay in releasing the new PS5 restock means that GAME can check the orders that have been placed and take action.
PS5: Sony unveil pricing for PlayStation 5 console
GAME told VGC today: “PlayStation 5’s continue to be in very high demand and that demand far outweighs current supply.
“We have strong measures in place to help ensure that our ‘1 per customer’ statement is maintained to allow for as many individual customers to successfully purchase as possible.
“All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks, and order updates such as cancellations following these checks take place after a customer will have received a valid order confirmation email.
“At the present time these orders are still pre-orders, and as such, no payments have yet been taken from customers. Payments will commence once our order checks have been completed.”
This extra step in the PlayStation 5 pre-order process should help to remove consoles from scalpers and should help determine how widespread the problem of reselling is.
At present, there are two different PS5 consoles available to buy, the standard edition and the digital edition.
Unlike with the Xbox Series consoles, the differences between them are much smaller, with Sony confirming:
“The only difference between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console is the inclusion of an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive in the PS5 console. The PS5 Digital Edition console does not feature a disc drive.
“The PS5 console features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive that will allow you to play PS5 Blu-ray disc games and PS4 Blu-ray disc games, as well as play video from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs, standard Blu-ray discs, and DVDs.
“The PS5 Digital Edition console does not have an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. PS5 Digital Edition console owners will be able to buy PS5 and PS4 games from PlayStation Store or access games via PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now (an ongoing paid subscription is required for each, sold separately).
“And more than 99% of the 4,000+ PS4 games can also be played on either the PS5 console or the PS5 Digital Edition console, though with the PS5 Digital Edition console these games will need to be downloaded from PlayStation Store while the PS5 model with a Blu-ray disc drive will also support PS4 Blu-ray discs.”
