PS5 Remote Play app will let you play PS5 games on PS4

A new app has appeared on the PlayStation 4 and, though it can’t be tested, it will allow owners to connect it with their PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5 may mark the next step in video game consoles, but it will still have some ties to the past with features like backwards compatibility.

In fact, its ties may be stronger than first thought, as a new Remote Play app has unexpectedly appeared on the PlayStation 4 with zero build-up or an announcement from Sony.

First spotted by VGC, the app will allow you to connect to and control your PlayStation 5 using your PlayStation 4.

Obviously, you can’t do anything with it right now as the PlayStation 5 isn’t available to the public and it doesn’t even work if you do happen to have a console.

Once it’s switched on though the feature is expected to allow you to play your PlayStation 5 games while using the PlayStation 4.

This likely means it’ll be possible to play PlayStation 5 games using the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller, as the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller isn’t compatible with the PlayStation 4 (there is a workaround but it’s not exactly convenient).

Sony previously stated that while the DualShock 4 will be compatible with the PlayStation 5, it can only be used with PlayStation 4 games played via backwards compatibility.

Although using the old controller to play PlayStation 5 games means you can’t take advantage of the DualSense’s features, like haptic feedback, the option is still an interesting one. Especially as it is hasn’t been mentioned up till now.

The PlayStation 5 will release in the UK on November 19 and outside Europe on November 12.
