PS4 free games update: Download and play a bonafide game of the year contender right NOW

PS4 owners have something to keep them occupied in the build up to next week’s big PS Plus reveal by Sony. As has become a bit of a weekly tradition, PS4 fans can download another huge blockbuster game for free, albeit only for a limited time. So if you’re looking to try out a bonafide game of the year contender for free this weekend, read on to find out how you can download this bonus PS4 freebie right now.

As part of the latest PS4 free games weekend, PlayStation owners can download and play Borderlands 3 completely free of charge.

The news was announced by 2K: “If you haven’t played Borderlands 3 yet and want to try before you buy, take advantage of the Free Play Weekend happening right now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“Between the start and end times detailed below, you can spend as much time shooting and looting on planets like Pandora, Promethea and Eden-6 as you like.

“Should you decide to purchase the game, your progress (and your loot!) will of course be saved.”

As 2K explains, to download the game fans should sign in to their PSN and Xbox accounts, visit the PlayStation or Xbox Store and search for the standard version of Borderlands 3.

“To play Borderlands 3 for free on your Xbox One or PlayStation 4 you need to find the standard edition of Borderlands 3 in your platform’s online store, then click the “Try Free Demo” button to begin the download,” 2K continues.

“Note that this button will not appear on the store pages for the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions of the game.”

As an added bonus, the games are discounted for the duration of the Borderlands 3 free event, so you can grab a bargain ahead of Black Friday.

Representing a saving of 41%, the standard edition is available for £34.99 from the PlayStation Store, or 335.99 from the Xbox Store.

  • Borderlands 3 review: The looter shooter that’s better than ever

Borderlands 3 Express Online review…

Describing it as the gaming equivalent of a popcorn movie, Express Online awarded Borderlands 3 an impressive 4/5 stars during its recent review.

“Borderlands 3 is the gaming equivalent of a good popcorn movie, and one that can be picked up and played for half an hour, or an entire evening,” the review reads.

“Just switch your brain off, choose your weapons and enjoy shooting the s**t out of everything that moves.”

The biggest negative about the game is its attempts at humour, which often fall flat. Visual glitches and texture issues were also present at launch, although post-release updates appear to have fixed many of these problems.

Described as a “mayhem filled thrill ride”, Borderlands 3 tasks players with stopping the Calypso Twins from uniting the bandit clans.

“The original shooter-looter returns, packing bazillions of guns and a mayhem-fuelled adventure!” reads the official description.

“Blast through new worlds and enemies as one of four new Vault Hunters. Play solo or with friends to take on insane enemies, score loads of loot and save your home from the most ruthless cult leaders in the galaxy.”
