Fans have recently discovered the horror of Princess Daisy’s trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. We’ve long since known about Daisy’s third eye on the back of her head, which was a bug on the initial version of Smash Melee that only got fixed with the Player’s Choice Edition and later PAL versions, but now we know exactly where that bug actually came from.
Daisy is an Ancient One.
To clarify that statement, the Supper Mario Broth Twitter account recently posted images that show what the Daisy Trophy looks like without Daisy’s hair. The images show that Nintendo didn’t actually bother with modeling Daisy’s eyes separately and instead just textured her head with eyeballs. You can make out at least 10 eyes covering Daisy’s skull with her hair off, and there are possibly more all along her body.
When Nintendo patched out that third eye bug, all they did was erase the part of the texture that was visible. They left the rest of it alone since the player would normally never see the rest of Daisy’s hairless skull. Apparently, someone managed to get into the game files to remove her hair, revealing Daisy’s allegiance to the Great Ancient One Whose Name Shall Not Be Uttered.
Honestly, this kinda makes sense. Daisy was around even before Princess Peach, so of course she’s old enough to have enough eyes to see both the beginning and end of all existence.
Smash Melee fans looking to get back into the game are likely to have to wait a little bit longer. Panda Global announced a partnership with Nintendo of America to bring officially licensed tournaments starting this year, but with the pandemic the way it is, one suspects that these tournaments have been put on hold for the time being.
