Nintendo Switch news: Forget Metroid Prime 4, Samus set to return with THESE games

Nintendo Switch gamers have been delivered some surprise news about one of Ninty’s icons that hasn’t had a solo outing on their latest console yet. The Nintendo Switch has been out for over two years, and in that time almost all of the beloved franchises have seen a release. Mario, Zelda, Luigi and Yoshi have all had solo outings while big name franchises such as Pokemon have also seen games released. There are only a few iconic Nintendo series that haven’t had a Switch debut so far.

One of those is Animal Crossing, with the highly anticipated New Horizons set to be released next March.

The other is the Metroid series, with Metroid Prime 4 previously announced early on in the Switch’s life.

But development on that project has restarted with it unclear when the next entry in the Prime series will be getting a release.

Since the Switch has been released Nintendo has launched a new Metroid game, but that was the Samus Returns remake for the Nintendo 3DS.

But Nintendo Switch fans wondering when Samus will make her Switch debut may have had their prayers answered.

According to a leak, the House of Mario is rumoured to have two new Metroid games in the works for the Switch aside from Metroid Prime 4.

The first is the heavily rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, which is expected to be announced at this year’s Game Awards ceremony in December.

Like with the Wii versions, this is expected to feature motion controls for all three MP games as well as giving them an HD visual upgrade.

The other rumoured new Metroid game is a bit of a surprise, but will surely go down a treat with Nintendo fans.

It’s rumoured that one of the most beloved Nintendo games of all time, Super Metroid, is getting a Switch remake.

It is believed the Super Metroid remake will be in a similar vein to the Samus Returns remake.

The news was revealed by tweeter LeakyPandy, who previously correctly leaked the Banjo Kazooie Smash DLC unveiling for the E3 2019 Direct.

In a post on Twitter LeakyPandy added that these Metroid games are expected to launch over the next two fiscal years.

They tweeted: “Nintendo is planning 2 new Metroid titles that will release in the next two fiscal years respectively.

“One is a re-release of Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, the second one is a Super Metroid Remake that mimics Samus Returns in style and scope.”

The news comes after Nintendo recently opened up about the possibility of doing more remakes following the launch of Link’s Awakening.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said: “Regarding the future, there is no clear directive to release remade titles.

“On one hand, in our 30 years of game console business we have made many past games that have been played by a many people, which have left strong impressions on them, and this is a very valuable asset to our company.

“Nostalgia is one great appeal, but even in remake titles, what’s more important is to create new game experiences, fun, and more.

“More than anything, we believe that passion towards wanting to remake the game from the creator of the original game is very important.

“For a recent example, Link’s Awakening, which you previously mentioned, is a good example of a game that has been reviewed by customers as both ‘nostalgic’ and ‘new’.”
