New Xbox Game Pass deal lets you pay for the whole family on one sub

Microsoft has launched its new Xbox Game Pass family plan in select countries, and will hopefully arrive in the UK in the coming months.

Back in April, there was talk of Microsoft introducing a new family plan for Xbox Game Pass.

After proof of its existence leaked earlier this week, Microsoft has lifted the lid on the plan, which is simply titled Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family.

As the name suggests, this subscription method means you and your family/friend group don’t all need to pay for individual Game Pass subscriptions.

The way it works is that one person (the primary account holder) foots the bill and can invite up to four others to join.

Each person will have access to their own individual accounts and profile, and everything included with Game Pass Ultimate. So that’s Game Pass across console, PC, and cloud, as well as Xbox Live Gold and EA Play.

All five users don’t even need to live together to apply, although Microsoft does mention that you all must be in the same country. So, if you have friends or family living overseas, you can’t add them.

You can also only be part of one group at a time. So, you can’t set one up yourself and then join someone else’s group.

The plan is currently available only in the Republic of Ireland and Colombia. Microsoft says it will roll it out for other countries in the coming months, but has given no date for when to expect it in the UK.

In Ireland, the deal costs 21.99 euros a month, which is about £18.99 over here. As a reminder, one Game Pass Ultimate subscription is £10.99 a month, so money is still being saved even if a group consists of only two people.

Microsoft has put together an FAQ to explain the minutiae of the plan, such as how to invite users to join and what to do if you already have a Game Pass subscription.
