New Pokémon presentation could feature new announcements

Aside from updates for the Diamond & Pearl remakes and Legends, the next Pokémon Presents may feature something entirely new.

Ever since the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes and Pokémon Legends: Arceus were announced in February, there has been little news on either of them.

Release dates were confirmed in May, with the remakes to arrive in November and Legends coming out in January 2022. And now fans can expect to see some proper updates for the games very soon with a new Pokémon presentation.

The official Pokémon website has announced that a Pokémon Presents is scheduled for August 18 at 2pm BST / 6am PT. While it would have been assumed, the website promises new information for the remakes and Legends.

With Legends being the franchise’s first proper open world game (with its announcement trailer drawing a lot of comparison to Breath Of The Wild), there are naturally a lot of questions that still need answering.

As for the remakes, the main questions are what new features will be included compared to the original, and if it will contain any of the content seen in Pokémon Platinum, which released for the Nintendo DS in 2009 and was considered the enhanced version of Diamond & Pearl.

What’s especially caught some fans’ eyes, however, is that the description for the presentation says that it will feature ‘new information about Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon Shining Pearl, and more.’

It’s the ‘and more’ which has sparked theories that perhaps there will be an entirely new announcement as well. It’s extremely unlikely that it will have anything to do with the next mainline instalments, but maybe Nintendo and Game Freak have a new spin-off game planned.

That said, there are plenty of already-announced Pokémon projects that could be highlighted during the presentation as well. The recently released Pokémon Unite, for example, could make an appearance.

There is also the Pokémon Sleep mobile game and Detective Pikachu 2 for Nintendo Switch which were announced in 2019. It’s been two years and there have been zero updates on either of these projects.

Whatever is planned for it, fans can at least look forward to a relatively meaty presentation at 28 minutes long. In fact, this makes it the longest Pokémon Presents to date, as highlighted by Serebii’s Joe Merrick on Twitter.

Past presentations have tended to be much shorter, with the previous longest runtime being 20 minutes. It’s likely that most of the presentation will be spent on the Diamond & Pearl remakes and Legends, but that still means plenty of new footage for fans to pore over.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on November 19.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on January 28 2022.
