New Nintendo Direct has just dropped (spoiler: it’s a boring Mini one)

Rumours of a Nintendo Direct happening this week have proven true, but the biggest new announcement is Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory.

We’re coming up to the one year anniversary of the last proper Nintendo Direct, that wasn’t just about a single game or indie title or only third party games.

There’s still no indication that Nintendo is going to have a new one any time soon though, as while they promised more like today’s Nintendo Direct Mini that’s not necessarily much to get excited about.

Considering it’s less than 12 minutes long you might as well just watch the whole thing above, but the even shorter version is that it features music game Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, and a collection of old SaGa Game Boy games.

For some reason an awful lot of the games featured were music-related, although while Melody Of Memory does have a Switch exclusive eight-player mode it’s a multiformat release.

Although we never noticed, it was apparently annouced two months ago and seems to be an update of the Theatrhythm formula from the 3DS, except focused on Kingdom Hearts and Disney instead of Final Fantasy.

Also given a few minutes of screen-time was Fuser from Guitar Hero creators Harmonix; Taiko No Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack, which contains two seperate games; and Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2021.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 was probably the other biggest announcement, a sequel to the 2017 original, and there’s presumably at least a few people that can get excited about Collection Of SaGa, which collects three Game Boy games that were known in the US (but never released in Europe) as Final Fantasy Legend.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, which we’ve just reviewed, was also given a quick plug and… that was it really.

You’ll notice not a single Nintendo-made game was mentioned but then that’s usually the case with these Nintendo Direct Minis, which are specifically only for third party games.
