League of Legends: Seraphine Support vs. Mid Lane – Which Is Better?

Some of the most powerful champions in League of Legends aren’t the ones with absurd kits or numbers. Instead, these champions are strong because they can work in more than one role. A flex pick is a valuable tool for the drafting phase. It creates a fair bit of confusion and misdirection. When used properly, a flex pick can create serious draft edges.

One champion that excels as a flex pick is Seraphine. This pink-haired pop star may have a lot of haters on internet forums, but her strengths as a champion can’t be ignored. Her kit gives a mix of both enchanter and control mage power, allowing her to be played both in mid lane and as a support. Professional players have taken her as both positions, but is Seraphine a support or a mid laner?

10 Seraphine Is A Support: Better Passive Utilization

Seraphine is a caster first and foremost. Her kit is based around her firing spells at a regular pace. While this doesn’t make her a raw DPS mage like Ryze or Cassiopeia, she’s still expected to not stop casting if she has the resources. Her passive is one of the main reasons for this.

Stage Presence has two different features to it. The first is her dualcast, which happens to every third spell she fires. More importantly, she also gains Notes that stack for spells cast. The number of notes gained in a stack increases with each nearby ally. In the support role, she’s able to deal out stronger passive procs on a regular basis.

9 Seraphine is a Mid Laner: Strong Waveclear

A good mid laner needs to be able to clear minion waves with ease. The strongest champions in the role are capable of wiping a wave at a low mana cost, then looking for opportunities around the map. Control mages are less reliant on moving around the map, but should still be able to match waveclear of opponents.

Seraphine’s wave clear once she gets her core items is wildly fast. With a dualcasted High Note, she’s able to shred caster minions and get melee minions low enough to finish with her Beat Drop. With more AP, she can look to clear a wave with a dualcasted Beat Drop followed up by High Note. Either way, she’s able to clean waves up without a problem.

8 Seraphine Is A Support: Strong 2v2 Pressure

Seraphine’s kit is designed to function well with another player, particularly in the damage department. We’ve already touched upon how much more damage she gets with her Note procs, but there’s more than just that. Seraphine creates a laning experience that can be charitably considered as “pretty miserable” for the opponents.

Seraphine packs a fair bit of damage in her basic abilities. Although they aren’t too hard to dodge, their hitboxes do allow for some unexpected damage. After poking an enemy into lethal range, she’s able to lock a target down at a safe range and gives her ally an easy kill to pick up.

7 Seraphine Is A Mid Laner: Fast Power Spikes

The best aspect of Seraphine is in her build paths. While Seraphine can indeed build traditional mage items, for the most part these are nowhere near as effective as support items. She spikes at two items, Moonstone and whatever she decides to follow it up with, typically Staff of Flowing Water.

MoonStaff is a powerful combo in the right situation. Seraphine gains a ton of power from acquiring these two items. The best part: due to the gold income of a mid laner, she can easily buy both of those items before her lane opponent can match her. This gives her a significant advantage during mid-game skirmishes.

6 Seraphine Is A Support: Allows For A Carry Mid Laner

Mid lane is a perfectly fine role to slot an enchanter into the team composition. Some strategies will opt-in to having a support in the mid lane to help protect a hyper carry more effectively. However, utility mid laners aren’t always the best. Seraphine does have solid damage numbers, but they are outclassed by other champions in her role.

If Seraphine is a support, however, the mid lane is left open to a champion capable of dealing high DPS. The flexibility of mid lane in filling gaps within team comps shouldn’t be ignored. By committing to Seraphine in the mid lane, the hope is that other roles can deal damage for her. In the support role, Seraphine can do her enchanter duties without gimping her team.

5 Seraphine Is A Mid Laner: Allows For A Tank Support

However, consider that enchanters aren’t always great in the meta. While they aren’t awful, and in some cases slept on completely, enchanters have clear weaknesses. They are susceptible to ganks from powerful junglers and hard engage, as it adds another squishy target in the bot lane. While they are designed to peel enemies away, that can sometimes be impossible.

Seraphine as a mid laner does everything she normally does but doesn’t make bot lane as juicy of a target for ganks. Instead, a tank support can slot into the role. This also opens up top lane or jungle to pick carries instead of bruisers or tanks. The damage will be evened out across the team comp as long as people are paying attention.

4 Seraphine Is A Support: Great At Protecting An ADC

An enchanter’s role in the game is to enable their allies to succeed even further. This comes in the form of keeping them safe from harm, allowing them to deal damage with impunity. Consider Janna, for example. Janna is able to shield her ally, provide passive movespeed boosts, and knock enemies around to keep them at bay.

Seraphine is also great at keeping an ally safe. Her Surround Sound is one of the most powerful shielding tools in the game, as it provides shields and movement speed in a single cast. Her dualcast Beat Drop roots targets in place and otherwise slows them down. Her ultimate, Encore, also stops enemies in their tracks. She’s great at making sure nobody keeps her down.

3 Seraphine Is A Mid Laner: Safe Laning In A Short Lane

A good mid laner is able to use the short lane to great success. Some characters who lack mobility are only able to function in a short lane, as otherwise, they’d be juicy targets for ganks. Seraphine lacks mobility, and because of that, she’s a prime target of focus. In a short lane, she’s able to lane with relative ease.

There are many components that build into this. For example, all of her peeling tools are great for self peeling. With less ground to cover, she’s able to slip under tower without taking too much damage from even a well-timed gank. On top of that, her wave clear helps to keep her from feeling too much pressure from turret dives.

2 Seraphine Is A Support: Functions Well With Low Income

Most obviously, supports must be able to operate without a gold income. They do have their support item and whatever scraps come their way, but that’s hardly much. A support gives up a lot to enable their carries to live the good life. Seraphine, although she can use the items well, doesn’t even need them.

The utility in Seraphine’s kit is absurd. She provides shields, heals, and movement speed for allies. For enemies, she can lock them down with slows, roots, and her charm. Her ultimate alone makes it so that, regardless of how far behind she is, she can still win a game. A well-placed Encore is one of the most disgusting abilities in the game, and that doesn’t require gold to fire.

1 Seraphine Is A Mid Laner: Hits Full-Build With Ease

The dream of late-game scenarios is to cap at max items. Two teams battling at full-build is an intense struggle that cannot be matched. However, the edge will always be won by however reaches that power first. Champions with cheaper items are able to get to full-build faster, and enchanters have items that provide insane value.

Seraphine, as a mid laner, isn’t just able to hit her mid-game power spike early. She’s able to hit full build fast, and with those items, she can look to match her opponents. While a full-build Viktor will still melt an entire team, Seraphine will get to that full-item breakpoint long before Viktor can sniff his last item. Gold is a powerful resource, and Seraphine can make the most of it.
