Jack Black Says He's Retiring, Jumanji: The Next Level May Be His Final Film

Jack Black has opened up about his early retirement plans, saying he originally earmarked Jumanji: The Next Level to be his final film.In an interview with Balance, Black revealed that his part as Professor Shelly Oberon in the Jumanji reboot sequel may be one of the last roles of his acting career, as he has had it pegged as his final swan-song for quite a while.Loading"Maybe one more movie," Black told the outlet. "I'm kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement… I've been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We'll see. I can't really say what my next thing is because it's too early; it's a jinxer. I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I'm looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset."The actor and musician explained that he wants to step away from the big screen to focus on family life, as he currently, "spends too much time away from home." Though he also admitted he would be open to the idea of television work, so long as the schedule allowed him to strike a better work-life balance.Loading"Maybe I'll do a TV show here in town, so I can work the 9 to 5 and then get back home," Black said."We'll see. I'm not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don't really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if [Quentin] Tarantino comes a-knocking, I'm gonna do that movie… Maybe I'm going to pull a Tarantino and say, 'Guys. I've done 99 movies. I'm going to do one more. Gonna go out on top!'"Black has had a storied career spanning movies, television, and music. He made his feature film debut in Bob Roberts – a satirical mockumentary written, directed by, and starring Tim Robbins – which led to several small film appearances ahead of his breakthrough role in 2000's High Fidelity. From there, he gained leading roles playing colourful characters in Shallow Hal, Nacho Libre, and The School of Rock.Jumanji: The Next LevelThe multi-talented funnyman then ventured into more family-friendly features such as the Kung Fu Panda series, Goosebumps and the recent Jumanji reboot movies. In our review of Jumanji: The Next Level, we called the film "a blast" saying, "what seems like something that is going to be a tired retread turns out to be far more fun than expected."Jumanji and retirement aside, find out who Jack Black would like to play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
