They say the best things in life are free. I’m not sure who they are, probably some billionaire sitting on top of a pile of money they effectively stole from you as you were horrifically underpaid for your work.
Nevertheless, free stuff is always nice, and that’s why it’s important to highlight it whenever it pops up.
PlayStation loves a good freebie, and it’s a big part of the appeal of PlayStation Plus.
Well, on top of the games that have already been announced for December (more on that further down), it turns out that there is not one, not two, not four, but three games available for free, especially for this weekend.
What’s special about this weekend, you ask? These free games. I honestly thought I made that clear.
The two stand out titles which you can play are The Crew 2andFirewall: Zero Hour.
Keen to know more? We've highlighted a bit more info about each game, just below.

The Crew 2 is Ubisoft's open-world racing game where you can also take control of planes, motorboats and a whole variety of vehicles.
"The free weekend is also a chance to check out the content added in the recent Blazing Shots update," explains Ubisoft. "Blazing Shots is the fourth major free update to come to The Crew 2, following Gator Rush, which introduced hovercrafts; Demolition Derby, which added its namesake event and destructible cars; and Hot Shots, which first introduced the LIVE Summits.
And if you want to keep tearing up The Crew 2’s roads after the free weekend is over, you can grab the Deluxe Edition of the game for up to 70% off at PlayStation Store from now through December 12 as well.
Next up, is Firewall Zero Hour, PlayStation VR's exclusive multiplayer shooter, which when you boil it right down, is basically a virtual reality version of Rainbow Six Siege.
"This Limited Free Trial will be available on the PS Store December 3rd (8AM PT) to December 9th (8AM PT).," explains the games developer, First Contact Entertainment.
"It’s the perfect time to invite friends to squad up and dive straight into battle – testing out the latest maps, weapons, and equipment. Complete missions, earn rewards, and level up with Double XP!"
So you’ll want to get on downloading them if you want to spend some quality time with them before this ends.
On top of both The Crew 2 and Firewall Zero Hour, you can also downloadCuisine Royale, which is a battle royale game apparently.
You probably already know about the open-world racing of The Crew 2, and the excellent VR shooting of Firewall: Zero Hour, but Cuisine Royale may well be a bit of a mystery to you. That’s understandable, it only just came out of a closed beta test, and it’s hard to keep up with every game that comes out these days.
Cuisine Royale isn’t the game you would expect. You might be hoping for a cooking show akin to the Great British Bake Off, where everyone is dropped into a large kitchen in order to prove themselves the greatest chef of all time by making a really nice victoria sponge. Alas, it isn’t that wholesome.
Instead, lots of mostly naked people fight it out across an island that features zombies, marginally offensive stereotypes, superpowers of varying kinds.
The trailer shows off the ability to run on all fours, make enemies glow, and even go invisible. So, yeah, it’s a bit different.
It does have an interesting answer to the mix of third and first-person play. Each player has something that serves as their camera in-game, which means if you’re using the third-person perspective to peek around a corner, you’ll potentially give your position away. It’s an innovative answer to an age-old issue.
It all looks very silly, so if you’re in the mood to try a new battle royale game, maybe this one is for you. That’s it for the free games, at least for this weekend.
Keep an eye out for an email from Sony as they can include free themes and even discount codes. It’s not clear exactly why some people have had emails and others haven’t, but hopefully, you too will be chosen.
PlayStation Plus December – Don't Forget!
Like every month, you've got two free games you can download right now and they're a cracking pair you certainly don't want to overlook.
As usual, don't hang about, they're not available for too much longer.
From a personal perspective, Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters of the decade, and I think everyone should play it. The campaign is only about 10 hours long, and the multiplayer is from the same team behind the currently popular Apex Legends – so you know it's going to be good.
Here's the site's summary of the game:
"In single player, Titanfall 2 delivers a crafted experience that explores the unique bond between man and machine. Playable offline, the single player campaign in Titanfall 2 lets fans step out onto The Frontier as a Militia rifleman with aspirations of becoming an elite Pilot.
"Stranded behind enemy lines and facing overwhelming odds, players must team up with a veteran Titan to uphold a mission they were never meant to carry out. In multiplayer, Respawn is continuing to evolve their gameplay to provide a more robust experience that delivers expanded depth and variety that includes six new Titans, deeper Pilot abilities, more customization options, and a robust progression system that is sure to satisfy fans."
Monster Energy Supercross
Whilst it's not as notable a title as Titanfall 2, there's still plenty to be said of Monster Energy Supercross. It's a serviceable racer that will certainly give motor sport fans a couple of hours of entertainment.
Here's the site's summary of the game:
"Race with the official riders from 250SX and 450SX on the official tracks, Daytona included, to experience one of the most spectacular and entertaining racing competition ever!
"Customize your rider and bike as you like, with countless possibilities, with more than 80 official brands and 300 items available, and challenge yourself in conquering the top of the leaderboard.
"Race alone or against players from all over the world thought different offline and online game modes! Feel the rush of adrenaline, enter the arena and be the King of Supercross!"
