GTA Vice City Online domain registered by Rockstar but don’t get too excited yet

Fans are convinced that points towards GTA 6 being set in Vice City, but it’s probably not as simple as that.

Given the complete lack of official information about the next Grand Theft Auto fans tend to grasp at any sliver of news, but on the face of it Rockstar owning does seem significant.

It appears to reinforce existing fan theories that the next game will be set in Vice City – the location for the second PlayStation 2 game’s much loved ‘80s homage – with the first two letters of ‘Vice’ supposedly being used to represent the Roman numerals for six.

There’s just one little problem… the domain was actually registered back in 2009, years before GTA 5, so it’s very unlikely to be anything to do with current plans.

The domain was first noticed by fans on Reddit and does seem to be legitimate, but rather than giving away the plans for GTA 6 it’s much more likely to just be Take-Two pre-empting cybersquatters.

Many publishers register multiple domains that have any name even remotely similar to one of their games, or one they might make in the future, and that’s likely to be the case here.

Of course, it is possible that the domain is finally about to get dusted down and used but the fact that Take-Two probably have dozens of similar domains registered, covering every possible permutation of existing GTA names, makes it very unlikely that this one would turn out to be real.

GTA 6, or whatever it ends up being called, is real though, and Take-Two have hinted that it’s already in development. Although everyone seems to agree it won’t be out any time soon and probably not any earlier than 2023.
