Gran Turismo 7 for PS5 leak was ‘misinterpreted’ claims peripheral maker

Cockpit manufacturer Next Level Racing has been forced to deny it has secret knowledge of Gran Turismo 7, despite using its logo.

Sony hasn’t announced anything about their line-up of games for the PlayStation 5 but you’d have to assume that a new Gran Turismo was extremely likely, given there wasn’t a numbered sequel for the whole of the PlayStation 4’s lifespan, just 2017’s GT Sport.

So it wasn’t much of a surprise to see a leak from Australian peripheral maker Next Level Racing, who added a logo for Gran Turismo 7 into a recent advert for high-end racing cockpits (basically gaming seats integrated with a steering wheel and pedals).

Of course, the Internet immediately noticed and assumed they had inside knowledge of an upcoming game, which they’ve now had to deny. Except the denial is worded very oddly.

The denial refers to the ‘launch of GT7’ as if Gran Turismo 7 was still a real thing that everybody knows about and they’ve taken down the original post – although a screenshot was saved by website TheSixthAxis.

Next Level Racing also seem to be implying that the logo is fan-made and they just decided to take it and use it themselves, but if it is it’s not one that anyone seems to have seen before.

Most damning though is that the focus of the ad was, ‘What racing game are you most looking forward to in 2020?’ Implying that Gran Turismo 7 is a launch game for PlayStation 5.

The other game logos used are Automobilista 2, F1 2020, and DiRT 5, all of which are definitely real.

More importantly, they’re games that Next Level Racing has officially licensed for their products, as they have with previous Gran Turismo games.

So it’s entirely possibly they do have inside knowledge of Gran Turismo 7 and don’t want to upset their relationship with Sony now that they’ve let the cat out of the bag.

Or maybe they were just taking it as read and decided to make up a logo to promote their stuff.

It’s impossible to say at the moment but with Sony’s first PlayStation 5 reveal rumoured to be in early June it may not be that long till we find out for sure.
