Fortnite servers are shutting down this morning as Epic Games prepares to release a quick Fortnite update following the release of 13.30 earlier this week.
This new update is planned for ALL platforms that support Fortnite including – PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mobiles.
Epic Games announced the news late last night that they'll need to take the game offline, supposedly for a small update to the game.
Writing on Twitter, the Epic Games official Fortnite Status account told fans:
"The Sea-son continues with another wave of Summer Splash LTMs and more.v13.30 arrives tomorrow, July 21. This time around, downtime will begin at 4 AM ET (08:00 UTC).
This means the game will go offline at 9 am BST in the United Kingdom.
The developers will provide an update on when server maintenance has ended, but it's hard to say precisely how long it could last.
Usually, server maintenance such as this requires roughly two hours and the game will typically come back online at around 11am BST for those in the United Kingdom.
Like any server maintenance for the game, this downtime will require all Fortnite modes to go offline, which includes the more popular Battle Royale mode, as well as Fortnite Save the World and Fortnite Creative.
So far Epic Games have not stated precisely what this update is intended to achieve.
A game-breaking bug? Several hotfixes to address the game since the release of the last update. It's not clear. Likely there will be a bit of everything.
Daily Express have suggested the update could usher in the games long-awaited cars.
"Launching on July 21/July 22, update 13.30 is expected to add four different classes of cars, including trucks, large cars, medium cars, and small cars," writes gaming editor Liam Martin.
Cars were technically shown at the start of the season, however, with most of the map underwater they've been unavailable to players.
But with the water levels receding, we might finally see the automobiles added to the game as a new mode of transport.
At the start of the season, Epic Games said: "As time goes on and water recedes even more locations will be uncovered.
"And as the roadways become more open, you'll discover new ways to get around."
The Epic Games Status account has also indicated that the update will be noticeably bigger on Nintendo Switch. The official Fortnite Support account told users:
"Please note: Patch size will be larger than usual on Nintendo Switch."
Though at present it's not clear why the update will be larger on this platform.
Stay tuned for more details, leaks courtesy of dataminers, and hopefully official patch notes courtesy of Epic Games.
