Fan Runs Mortal Kombat 2 On A Fitbit Home Screen

We love running things on things they're not meant to. Whether it's playing Pokemon via Twitch and Twitter profile pictures, or even experiencing Doom on a pregnancy test, nothing unites us more than pushing the limits of game ports. And now, we have another contender to join them.

One Mortal Kombat fan has got the second game running on a Fitbit, kinda. While it's not playable, the interface has been completely overhauled to show sprites and animations from the arcade classic. It's even interactable, as a fan favourite easter egg appears when the Fitbit user taps the screen.

As you can see in the video shared by the creator, it's completely faithful to the old 2D games. Reptile and Scorpion loop in their idle animations, ready to fight. The health bars above them are instead used to keep a count of the user's steps and calorie intake.

One of the best aspects of it is that tapping the screen makes the famous "toasty!" animation appear. In the original games, this can play when the player performs an uppercut, sometimes causing sound designer Dan Forden to appear in the corner of the screen as we see in the clip below.

Many fans in the replies are eager to get their hands on this redesign of the usual home screen, but as of right now, the creator is the only person who has access to it.

While fans will have to wait to add this to their own Fitbit, there's been more than enough news to keep them busy lately. As we reported recently, more rumours about the next Mortal Kombat game are spreading, including the suggestion that Reiko is set to return as a playable character for the first time since 2006. The leaker also hinted that the game will release next year, making a reveal during the summer showcase season all the more likely.
