Fallout Developer Bethesda Outlines Black Lives Matter Contribution

In light of recent events regarding police brutality and the unlawful death of George Floyd by Minneapolis officers, developer Bethesda has detailed how it will contribute to Black Lives Matter organizations.

In a response that condemns the unjust actions of law enforcement and decries ingrained systems of oppression, Bethesda made a few announcements about the commitments it will take to fight off racial injustice. This includes donating “immediate financial support in the amount of $250,000 for organizations engaged in the fight for racial justice,” establishing a company-wide diversity board to hold itself accountability of issues of fairness and inclusions, requiring all employees attend “recurring and mandatory unconscious bias, sensitivity, and allyship training” courses, providing ongoing educational programs for all employees to raise awareness and engage in discussion all forms of inequality and injustice, and more.

“We are listening to our employees of color and to the wider Black community. We are exploring ways to educate ourselves and our teams,” Bethesda wrote in a statement. “This is by no means a comprehensive list, and it will continue to grow as our understanding evolves and as needs arise. Effecting real change in the face of deep-rooted, systemic discrimination will not be easy, but our commitment is unwavering.”

Of course, Bethesda isn’t the only game company making contributions to organizations fighting against systemic racism and inequality. Other companies, from EA to Nintendo and beyond, have all given statements on the current events, with many of them either standing in solidarity with the Black community, donating to the Black community, or both.

Additionally, our own Play For All summer gaming event, a celebration of all things gaming, is raising money for COVID-19 relief efforts and Black Lives Matter with the help of our friends from around the gaming world. Check out the Play For All schedule for more.
