There are a handful of ways to gain power in Dusk Diver 2, and all of them are worth dabbling in if you want to get to the end in one piece – or at the very least, in a decent time. Combats are lengthy and numerous, and coming into the game without a bit of bite to your attacks will only result in an underwhelming experience.
Orbs are one such way of gaining power, although they are also one of the least reliable. Craftable gubbins that you can slot into your equipment to gain powerful effects are more than enough reason to take a look at the system – even if the results can get a bit wild from time to time.
Before you can even start thinking about crafting Orbs, you need to know some recipes. These are unlocked as you progress through the game, with the humble Broken Orb being your first foray into the wonderful world of Orb Fusion.
Each recipe can be constructed in several ways as displayed when you go to craft an Orb, but one thing remains constant – you are going to need materials if you plan on making anything. Materials are dropped from enemies and found lying about the world when you go exploring.
Finally, you are going to need a place to craft. In the Real World, you can just head back to the Boss’ Shop and access Orb Fusion. If you are out and about fighting Chaos Beasts, well, you are going to have to find one of the many Secret Shops that litter that hellscape.
Unfortunately, Orb Crafting is completely random. What you get when you mash resources and money together is not guaranteed to be useful, and heck, there is a decent chance it will be boost a mostly irrelevant stat. This makes it incredibly difficult to get any sort of decent return on Orb Crafting.
Despite this drawback, however, it is still worth doing. Even underwhelming Orbs can grant bonuses that can help make your characters slightly better than they were before grabbing an Orb. Just be prepared to do a bit of grinding (or save scumming…) if you want to make the most of this system.
Just owning an Orb will get you nowhere. You have to slot it into a piece of equipment. In the early game, this is easier said than done. In fact, you are going to have access to Orb Fusion before you can use the Orbs you fuse. This is because early game equipment lacks Orb Slots.
Once you have a piece of kit with slots, however, the world is your oyster. Slot those Orbs and reap the rewards from your gambling, grinding, and scumming.
