Diablo 4 release date update confirms good and bad news for fans

Diablo 4 – The Latest News

After such a long wait to see Diablo 4 confirms, it's understandable that players might be apprehensive of another Blizzard blackout.

Thankfully, this week the devs confirmed that they won't be going dark on the game too much, confirming "quarterly" updates would keep fans in the loop in the lead up to release.

The news was shared by Diablo 4 game director Luis Barriga, who wrote in a community blog post:

"We’ve been taking this week to assess and discuss our takeaways from BlizzCon, and we love all the deep discussions happening around the art, features, systems, and world of Diablo IV. We’re also excited about a cool update we’re planning for you in February of next year. It will be the first in a series of quarterly updates where we’ll share behind-the-scenes looks at our progress going forward."

On top of the regular behind the scenes updates, Barriga also confirmed that an update on how Blizzard will handle items and stats in Diablo 4 is forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

  • PS5 price update: SSD ‘carts’ could reduce launch price of Sony’s next-gen hardware

  • GTA 6 release date update: Another job ad surfaces, suggesting Grand Theft Auto will launch later than 2020

"We also know that one topic is burning hotter than the rest. We want you to know that we are having the same conversations about items and stats that you are having—whether on the official discussion threads or external sites, we read it all! Getting this right is at the top of our minds, and in the coming weeks our lead systems designer David Kim will provide a few clarifications, share some of his thoughts, and address some of your open questions."

In other news, Twitch streamer Quin69 has seemingly confirmed in speaking with a Blizzard rep that the game will contain cosmetics in the game, some of which will be locked behind microtransactions.

Presumably, this will be from within some sort of in-game store. Either way, we look forward to learning more during the quarterly updates blizzard has planned.

Whats is the Diablo 4 Release Date?

Look, I’m gonna be honest with you here; probably not until 2021 at the earliest. While it could be out sooner, it’s highly unlikely. The game’s director said that it wouldn’t be finished soon, and that probably means at least a year-and-a-half if not far longer. That’s assuming nothing major happens that changes the timeline at all.

What Consoles Will Diablo 4 Release On?

It is currently aiming for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Unlike Overwatch 2, there is no mention of the Nintendo Switch here at all. That’s not all that surprising, although Diablo 3 is very good on Switch. Given the timeframe, it’s also highly likely that we’ll see it on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett too. There is also talk of cross-play according to this interview onThe Telegraph. This could be a big selling point as more and more games are trying to do this.

What Modes Will Diablo 4 Have?

Diablo 4 will be always online, which seems to be aiming towards more of a mixed bag of modes than those seen in Diablo 3. The usual PvE co-op play will be available, but there is also talk of reintroducing PvP to the series as well. Also, according to this piece byGamespot, there will be a greater focus on replayability as well. Which is saying something, because you may well still be playing Diablo 3 at the moment. We could be looking at something akin to Destiny, with other players running around the world near you and allowing for impromptu team-ups.
