Call of Duty’s new Battle Royale game will be free to download, sources claim

It's no secret that Call of Duty Modern Warfare has an impressive Battle Royale mode in the works.

Since the launch of Season 2 last week, several key details about the game have leaked. From the map itself to key details about the mode's gameplay and features.

It feels like most shooter fans are fairly clued up on what to expect.

However, some of the most important details are still elusive. For instance, when is it releasing and will it cost money to buy.

A new report last night fromVGC , citing sources from within the games development teams, we now have a much better idea of the main details Call of Duty fans have been craving.

As with all rumours, you need to take everything with a pinch of salt until officially announced, but VGC are not the types to flagrantly publish rubbish, so we'd be more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt on the following intel.

Players who choose to play via the free mode, will then have the ability to purchase and upgrade to the full version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare to unlock the campaign and competitive multiplayer.

Though we've seen and heard plenty about Warzone already, it's possible that Activision's marketing plans could seriously ramp up in the next week with VGC claiming that official marketing plans for Warzone will start this week.

Supposedly, this is because North American content creators are set to visit the studio soon in order to get hands-on and capture footage of the new battle royale mode ahead of a future announcement.

Studio sources also told VGC "that Activision has no intention of slowing down its premium Call of Duty releases, which will continue to be created under the leadership of Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer."

Warzone is therefore thought to be a 'third pillar' for the series alongside the highly successful Call of Duty Mobile and the conventional yearly Call of Duty releases.

More to follow.
