Call of Duty Black Ops Mulitplayer Introduces Health Bars

Okay, it may not be completely unique to Cold War, but if you haven’t been keeping up with Black Ops, this will be the first time that you’ve seen a health bar in a Call of Duty game.

Recently we got a first look at the Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War multiplayer mode, and boy does it look exciting. After the traditional reveal and commentary that we have come to expect from game developers, Treyarch took a different approach to this reveal. It began showing professional streamers and league players getting in on the action live for the first time.

The full reveal went on for more than four hours and gave us looks at two new game modes, new maps, and new ways to play that are going to make the game feel fresh and interesting for you. What caught our eye, though—and what many of you may find to be new—is that there are now health bars that tell you how close your opponent is to dying.

No longer do you have to guess how many shots it takes to kill your enemy, it will tell you where they are in real-time. These health bars appear to show up whenever you are simply looking at a player, not just when you are shooting at them. Something similar was part of Black Ops 4, but that health bar was a little bit harder to see. We don’t know if stealth perks will hide your health bar or if it only applies to killstreaks, but those issues will be addressed in the coming weeks.

While it may seem wrong in Call of Duty, the addition of the health bar could be a welcome sight. Having a visual display to compare your loadouts to is such an obviously perfect aspect that we are surprised we had never considered suggesting it before. We are also sure it’s going to stick around and spill over into other CoD games. If you want to get your hands on the beta, you’re going to need to preorder the game and then play the waiting game. It will be available for the PS4 on October 8th and PC and Xbox on October 15.
