Overwatch's annual Lunar New Year event is due to start soon, with the event traditionally kicking off towards the end of January, to coincide with the Chinese New Year.
Today, Blizzard has finally announced when we can expect to see the Year of the Rat event go live on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
In a surprise tweet, giving players precious little time to prepare, the developer announced that Overwatch will see the latest Lunar New Year event go live tomorrow, on January 16 at 6pm (UK time)
The event is scheduled to and run through until February 5.
The announcement tweet (above) shows off Hanzo, being rained upon by paper lanterns, in keeping with the event's Chinese theme.
Every year, we seem to get more content when it comes to seasonal events, and this first event of 2020 is likely going to be no different.
As of 2019, you could unlock a frankly ludicrous 210 Lunar New Year items in the game. These include:
- 27 Skins
- 8 Epic Skins
- 19 Legendary Skins
- 7 Emotes
- 19 Victory Poses
- 62 Voice Lines
- 67 Sprays
- 58 Hero Sprays
- 5 Common Sprays
- 4 Achievement Sprays
- 6 Highlight Intros
- +34 Player Icons.
You can expect all these – and more besides – to go live with the event at 6pm tomorrow.
Overwatch Lunar New Year 2020 – Skins
Nothing has been revealed about the new skins that'll be added to the game as part of the event yet, but there is one key thing we know about this year's theme: it's the Year of the Rat.
Does that mean we can expect Blizzard to pay specific attention to everyone's favourite Aussie junker, Junkrat?
We certainly hope so.
We'll keep you update with any announcements or leaks as they happen.
