The Back 4 Blood open beta is kicking off this week and will give gamers across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam platforms the chance to band together and take on waves of the undead.

The closed beta created some major buzz around the game, which has been made by the same team who created Left 4 Dead.

And for those who are growing tired of dropping into Warzone Quads or Rocket League can prepare for a new challenge this week.

Offering both replayability and an intense encounter, Back 4 Blood has a full release date scheduled for October 2021.

However, the development team are still looking to iron bugs and make crossplay run as smoothly as possible.

And the best way to do that is to throw as many people as possible at the servers to make sure everything is up to scratch.

This will be one of the main focuses of this week’s Back 4 Blood open beta, which will be the perfect opportunity to check out the FPS before it arrives later this week.

Turtle Rock Studios has confirmed that the Back 4 Blood open beta release time has been scheduled for 8pm BST, on Thursday, August 12.

The preload for the game is available to download today, and this makes it possible to jump straight in when the open beta begins later this week.

It should be noted that gamers in North America will be able to play Back 4 Blood starting at 12pm on the same day.

The new beta is expected to contain the same content as the early access version that went live earlier this month.

The big difference will be that everyone who has a compatible device to play the game will be able to do so.

Console gamers don’t even have to worry about PS Plus and Xbox Live subscriptions, as neither will be required, according to the Back 4 Blood site.

During the open beta, fans will have access to a number of maps and modes, some of which come with certain limitations.

Not all the final content will be available to play later this week, so there’s going to be plenty of surprises for those who buy the full version.

One question some fans have had regards the PvP system and how it will work when it will be possible to buy drops.

There will be plenty of gamers out there waiting to play PvP but some might have reservations regarding whether it could include pay-to-win elements.

The good news is that Turtle Rock has discussed this, telling gamers that there will be no barrier created by spending more cash.

“In pvp, everyone who bought back 4 blood can get access to all additional pvp content, even without purchasing content drops.

“Players who don’t buy the content drops can earn new playable characters and ridden in pvp, for free, through progression.

“Additionally, all pvp players have access to the same cards at the start of each match, regardless of whether those players have purchased content drops or not.

“We hope this answers some of your questions about what we’re doing to make sure there is no pay-to-win or community separation.

“Right now we’re still fully focused on getting Back 4 Blood out the door, and we’ll provide more information on post-launch content later on.”
