Among Us is getting an airship map

Among Us launched in 2018 with one map, The Skald. Two new maps, Mira HQ and Polus, put the game on streamers’ radar. Before long, the little social subterfuge game blew up to be one of the biggest titles of 2020. At The Game Awards on Thursday, developer InnerSloth showed off something new: the next map coming to Among Us.

It’s called The Airship and takes place in a brightly lit spaceship full of references to InnerSloth’s Henry Stickmin games. Players have new tasks, as well as the ability to start off in different rooms after an emergency meeting, which will shake things up.

There are familiar elements to the new map: vents for impostors to use, puzzles like wiring and downloading data, and the emergency meeting button. The fun of Among Us is always learning the nooks and crannies of each map, and exploiting them to best murder your crewmates (or, if you’re not an impostor, learning how to best complete your tasks without getting murdered).

Among Us has been the social media craze for months now thanks to the game’s popularity during the pandemic on streaming platforms. The game pits impostors, who can murder and sabotage the ship, against the innocent crewmates, who have to work together. Since everyone looks the same and it’s unclear who the impostors are, players have to confront each other during emergency meetings.

The game became so popular that an in-development sequel was canceled in order to avoid splitting the player base. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Canadian New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh have both used Among Us to conduct voter outreach and education.

The new map was originally teased on social media, but players only caught a glimpse of the cockpit. Now, we have a much better idea of the playing field for when the new map releases. There’s no release date as of yet, but players watching The Game Awards can download a mask of Geoff Keighley, so that’s nice.
