If you’re new to Valorant, it can be frustrating at times. Nothing feels quite as bad as getting killed by an enemy before you can even react. Even if you came from another shooter like Overwatch or Call of Duty, tactical shooters can feel a lot different. Our Valorant beginner’s guide has five tips and tricks that will help you learn the game and become a better player.
Learn how to use the Valorant Shooting Range
The Shooting Range is your best friend when it comes to improving your aim, learning about an Agent, and practicing your abilities. To get to the Shooting Range, click Play and then click Practice in the bottom left corner. You can choose Open Range or Shooting Test from here to enter.
Once you’re in the range, you can choose which Agent to use, even if you haven’t unlocked them yet. You can freely practice using their abilities. You can also use the Shooting Test to practice your aim, or you can shoot at targets around the map.

Learn one Agent at a time
There are currently 13 Agents in Valorant, but you should focus on learning one at a time. Trying to learn multiple characters at once can be overwhelming and distracts you from focusing on other aspects of the game like positioning, aiming, and using abilities correctly.
When you practice only one Agent, you learn them inside and out and get a better feel for how to position and play as them. Once you feel confident in your abilities, you can branch out and begin learning another, but try to stick to one at a time.
Crosshair placement is key in Valorant
Knowing where to place your crosshair as you move is essential to success in tactical shooters like Valorant. When you’re holding an angle, peeking a corner, or walking, you always want to have your crosshair aimed at where your enemy’s head might appear. This way, you don’t have to make a gigantic flick to get a headshot.
Practice learning where your enemies will appear on different maps, and where you need to hold your crosshair to get a headshot as soon as you see them. Good players will already know how to do this, and that’s why they are able to kill you the second you appear on their screen.
Use your abilities
The one thing that sets Valorant apart from other tactical shooters is that each Agent has different abilities. Learning to use these abilities is key to your success. Many players that come from other shooters like Counter-Strike rely heavily on their gunplay skills and overlook abilities. This is a big mistake.
Regardless of which character you choose to play, using their abilities properly can give you an edge over your opponents. Learn what they do, which ones to buy each round, and how to get the most out of them.
Learn the maps and callouts
Each map in Valorant is unique and has different spots that players commonly refer to with different callouts. Knowing the maps and callouts is crucial when it comes to communicating with your team and finding your enemies.
Learning the maps will also help you with using abilities, crosshair placement, and proper positioning. You don’t want to wind up without cover in the open, because you don’t know your surroundings!
