Tournament organiser Ultimate Gaming Championship (UGC) has joined forces with U.S. Army Esports for the Apex Predator Series, an Apex Legends event.
Played online through UGC’s competitive platform, the series will take place over August 9-24th.
While the Apex Predator Series is the first instance of UGC and U.S. Army Esports working together, it’s expected to be the first of many as they are planning on “building a long-lasting relationship to furnish the next level of competitive gaming events.”
Matt Jackson, CEO & Founder of UGC discussed the partnership in a release: “We are ecstatic to be working alongside U.S. Army Esports to bring the Apex Predator Series to life on our UGC Esports platform. Collaborating with a brand such as the U.S. Army on this tournament adds a level of validation to both of our esports footprints as well as helps us provide a more unique experience for our online platform player base.”
The event’s Championship Round will see the top 15 teams take on U.S. Army Esports’ team for a total prize pool of $4,000 (£3,205.40). Teams can compete on either PC or Xbox One, with registration opening on August 1st.
SFC Christopher Jones, General Manager of U.S. Army Esports added: “This is an amazing opportunity for soldier and civilian alike to share our passion for esports. Working with a company like UGC helps us realize that shared goal of bringing more people into esports from all walks of life. We’re excited to watch the action and see who is an Apex Predator!”
UGC recently announced its second Halo Classic event in partnership with Halo Championship Series (HCS). Hosted on September 6-8th in Atlantic City, the event will be played on Halo 3 and have a prize purse of $50,000 (£39,947.25).
Esports Insider says: We’ve seen the U.S. Army itself getting more and more involved with esports over the past year or so, never mind its own esports team now sponsoring events. The concept itself is quite interesting; we’re intrigued to see the overall reception in terms of participation and viewership.
